Low Carb Stuff

I've been back on Atkins now for almost 3 weeks. I'm very encouraged by all the new low carb choices out there: restaurants, fast food joints, and the supermarket all have low carb options, with more and more places joining the fray.

Here's a cool low-carb site -- it's a news blog concerning all the developments on the low carb front: Low Carb Blog.

Friday's vs. Ruby Tuesday's

I've now eaten at both T.G.I. Friday's and Ruby Tuesday's, and have sampled each of their new Atkins/Low Carb menus. My take is that Ruby Tuesday tried harder to incorporate new ideas and items: they had over 20 items on their Atkins menu, compared to 1/2 dozen or so for Friday's. Also, Ruby Tuesday's had some new, interesting choices, such as creamed cauliflower.

At Friday's, I ordered the Garlic Chicken: 2 grilled chicken breasts over some grilled vegetables. It was very good. However, the exact same item was available on the "regular" menu. The only difference was that the non-Atkins dish came with mashed potatoes.

So, it just seems that Ruby Tuesday put some thought into making clever low-carb additions to their menu, while Friday's moved some stuff around and holds the bread and potatoes. Don't get me wrong: I really like the fact that these restaurants are doing this. And Friday's did a good job of listing the carb counts on their Atkins menu, just as Ruby Tuesday did. I will certainly not hesitate to go to either of these restaurants in the future and order a low-carb meal.
